Executive Summary:

There is a growing interest of reusing greywater worldwide. However this has not yet been received much attention in the United Arab Emirates. Greywater can be defined as any domestic wastewater produced, excluding sewage and kitchen wastewater. The main difference between greywater and sewage (or blackwater) is the existence of organic loading. Sewage has a much larger organic loading compared to greywater. For the sake of reuse the treated greywater, it requires development of an expensive dual reticulation (secondary sewer pipe for greywater collection and distribution) for household non-potable consumptions (toilet flushing and irrigation). Design and economic evaluation of dual reticulation is unknown in the region. Therefore this study will focus on design and evaluation of dual reticulation in two types of residential premises (individual house and residential compound having several houses). The study will involve hydraulic design, economic analysis and plumbing practices of dual reticulation system.
